Off!- Wasted Years- Review

Whether or not you like OFF! is entirely dependent on how much you like BLACK FLAG'S Nervous Breakdown EP. If you're like me, and you think that the pre-Rollins black flag put out some of the best California music of all time, then this album, and the rest of the bands discography, is right up your alley.

Formed in 2009 from the ashes of THE CIRCLE JERKS, REDD KROSS, ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT, and BURNING BRIDES, OFF! released four EP'S in 2010 and a full length in 2012. They've mainly kept the sound of that material for this new album, making visceral, pissed off hardcore punk. It's what they do best.

This sameness of sound is a double edged sword. The material is solid, the songs are great, but they blend together. Tracks like "Exorcised," and "All I Can Grab" break up the sameness with solos and leads but it's not enough. I don't think I could pick out the songs

The biggest difference between this album and the last is in the lyrical content. The first album, though it was still political, was more upbeat. This album is certainly darker. Songs like "Legion of Evil," "Red White and Black," and "Hypnotized" focus on government oppression and the its affects on youth.

This album's okay. It didn't hit me quite as immediately as the first album, but it's okay.

6/10
